Job Description

The Employee Relations Specialist is responsible forensuring effective administration and compliance of Employment & Labor Law,Industrial Relations, Compliance Line, Worker’s Compensation and otherworkplace policies. The incumbent willhave day-to-day contact with front-line supervision in the daily implementationof the labor contract for approximately 850 unionized employees.

Major activities/Key challenges:
The principal responsibility of this position to establish a labor relations climate that is conducive to fostering a relationship with the USWA that supports our joint partnership philosophy striving for win-win solutions to issues; and constructive change consistent with the Alcoa Warrick business plan.

Execute the Warrick Labor Relations course and strategy.
Administer, interpret and apply the master labor agreement.
Identify, initiate, and negotiate work practice changes consistent with the Warrick business plan.
Recognize and identify potential labor relations problem and recommend acceptable methods to avoid or resolve such problems.
Counsel and advise all levels of management concerning potential and/or current employee/labor relations issues.
Negotiate and administer local agreements.
Assist in investigation, interpretation and resolution of the grievance procedure, including preparation and presentation of grievances at arbitration.
Essential Knowledge & Skills/Education

Experience in contract administration and grievance resolution
Demonstrated working knowledge of federal, state and local employment/labor laws and regulations.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong conflict resolution and problem solving stills.
Highly competent in building relationships.
Strong organization skills and ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
Major Customers
Plant Management, USW Local 104 an all employees. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations or related field.

5 years of Industrial Relations experience working with a labor union.

Preferred Qualifications:
Professional certification within HR or IR discipline preferred: i.e. PHR or SPHR certification
Experience working with USW.
