|Description of Job Duties
Supervise a work unit in the highway maintenance and repair of roads and work on special highway projects in an assigned area. Inspect work for completion. Coordinates special assignments and projects with appropriate authorities. Individuals appointed to this job classification are required to reside in the assigned work county or an adjacent county.

Characteristics of the Job :
Supervises employees in the highway maintenance and repair of roads or work on special highway projects in an assigned area. Inspects work for completion. Coordinates special assignments and projects with appropriate authorities. May serve as Superintendent II on a temporary basis; and performs other duties as required.
Typical Working Conditions and Unique Physical Requirements :
Incumbents in this job typically perform their work at a highway maintenance facility, at work sites throughout the assigned work area, and when necessary, district wide. Positions in this job must possess the ability to walk, sit, stoop and bend. Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds. Must be able to work extended hours and be outside supervising the work units during inclement weather. Must be able to respond to emergencies.
Additional Requirements :
Upon appointment, employees in this class may be required to maintain a valid driver’s license and required to drive a licensed vehicle. This status may be necessary for the length of time in this class. If this is necessary it will be listed in the specific position description for that position.
