Provides nursing leadership while ensuring implementation of clinical objectives and quality patient care. Provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization. Training is provided relevant to the population served, based on scope of care of the service assignment.

  • Job Responsibilities
    • Provides leadership, orientation, training, coaching, and mentoring to staff.
    • Ensures staff compliance with departmental and organizational policies, procedures and protocols.
    • Responds to complaints about patient care and manages through established channels.
    • Implements and monitors patient care plans. Monitors, records and communicates patient condition as appropriate.
    • Serves as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
    • Assesses and coordinates patients’ discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team. Assesses learning needs of patient and family and provide education based on age, culture, and willingness to learn.
    • Notes and carries out physician and nursing orders.
    • Performs job duties in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act.

  • Education
    • Associate’s degree in Nursing or Diploma in Nursing required. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or Master’s degree in Nursing preferred. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or Master’s degree in Nursing required within 3 years of employment in this position.
  • Licensure/Certification/Registration
    • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) required. Eligible to practice nursing in the State of Kentucky required. Certified as a Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider required within 30 days of employment in this position. Certified as an Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Healthcare Provider preferred.
  • Work Experience
    • 3 years progressive experience in a related field and/or a leadership role required.
  • Skills and Attributes
    • Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgment Works under minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Department specific competencies for positions are detailed in the unit/department scope of service.
